SPECIAL PAY for NURSE CORPS OFFICERS


A Registered Nurse Accession Bonus of up to $5,000.00 is payable to qualified nurses who accept a commission to service on active duty as Nurse Corps officers for at least four years. Individuals who accepted DoD financial assistance to pursue a baccalaureate degree are not eligible for the bonus.

Incentive Special Pay (SP) for Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) is to a qualified officer called to active duty for at least one year. The ISP rate cannot exceed $15,000 per year for any contract in which the CRNA is not obligated for training. For contracts in which the CRNA is obligated for training, the ISP rate cannot exceed $6,000 per year.

These CRNA officers on active duty less than one year, other than active duty for training, are eligible for ISP:

  • Reservists ordered to active duty, other than training, for more than 30 days but less than a year .
  • Active duty CRNA officers involuntarily retained under 10 USC 12305.
  • Active duty CRNA officers who voluntarily remain when some are involuntarily retained.
  • Retirees recalled to active duty for more than 30 days under 10 USC 688.

The officer who can authorize ISP or terminate it must be at least in the pay grade of 0-7 with delegated authority from the service secretary concerned. If recouped, the CRNA is entitled to the pro rated portion earned, including months and days of entitlement.
